Studies show that weight loss is good for prevention. Women who lost 11 pounds or more over 10 years decreased their risk of osteoarthritis by 50%.

2. Stretch muscles

All stretching is good for you as long as you use the correct methods, and do not bounce as this can lead to muscle pull. Hold a stretch for 20 to 30 seconds before relaxing and starting again. You should stretch before exercise like running, walking or working out with weights in the gym. It is good to stretch every day using stretches focusing on arthritis trouble areas like the knees and back.

3. Walk

Take a walk at least three times a week or participate in a step-aerobics class or low impact exercise routine for best results. Running is not a bad exercise but it could aggravate an injury already there. Always check with your doctor before starting a new exercise routine.

We are all designed to be active and so of all the helpful healthy habits we have exercise is the most important. Bottom line is to keep exercising to stay healthy and keep those joints from wearing down.
